Shodan

Pointers for Shodan

As with ikkyu, shodan also has something of a small fail rate, but the panel is looking for something slightly more polished than being to simply cut men.

Requirements

  • Kirikaeshi - Kakarite and Motodachi
  • Jitsugi x 2
  • Nihon Kendo Kata, forms 1-3 - Uchidachi OR Shidachi
  • Written Test

Pointers

  • A little more variety than ikkyu - Just bang in the odd debana kote or kote-men as well as the obligatory men uchi, just to show that you can do a little more than tonking people on the head!
  • Get at least one or two convincing ippon - Just basically to show that you can use what you can do. A nice convincing ippon will always put you one step closer to passing. That having been said, the pass rate is still low.
