Pointers for san dan

Your last grading before you become a kendo "man" at 4th dan. Still not a huge amount for you to worry about or get stressed over!

Requirements

• Kirikaeshi (though not in some cases)- Kakarite and Motodachi
• Jitsugi x 2
• Nihon Kendo Kata, forms 1-7, Uchidachi or Shidachi
• Written Test

Pointers

• The whole package - What you are trying to show here is that you have a good enough understanding of the basics, for instance kikentai, footwork, a good posture, plenty of kiai and that you show a good overall rounded impression of a lower level kendoka.
• Shikake waza - One point that they will definately want to see is some good and varied shikake waza from you, so try not to simply batter a few menuchi in, but get in some debana waza too, the odd bit of nidan waza won't go amiss, and if there is opportunity knock in a little hiki waza too.
• Maai - this one is important. Show that you know how to manage the distance between you and your opponent, and you individually know what your own issoku ittou no maai is.
